Indian route 59 from Kayenta, AZ to US 191 to Chinle, AZ

Question

Anyone traveled Indian 59 from   Kayenta to US 191?Looking for a short cut after visiting Monument Valley, then heading for Canyon De Chelly.

I took that road a few years ago. Recalled it was okay, but pretty desolate, and surface not the best. Looked at it again on Google Maps Street View, and see that it is about the same.
