Indiana Interstate 70

There has been a lot of talk on here the last few years about the condition of I70 especially between Indy and the Ohio line. MM 141 to 156 was especially bad, just plain dangerous with several fatalities due to people losing control trying to avoid or after hitting a hole. I am not exaggerating to say that stretch you could find a wide variety of car and truck parts including complete wheel and hub assemblies strewn on the roadside. I am happy to say this summer there has been a lot of work done. I would no longer avoid the area except nights and weekends as they finish up berms and painting. Everything is supposed to be complete mid October.

I have become tired of seeing so many posts from people saying to avoid Indiana because of the road conditions and since this is a daily drive for me so I am one happy man!

    Absolutely
Then we can have 3 lanes of trucks doing 65-68 in a 70 mph zone with traffic backed up of a 1/2 mile or more behind them.
  • 3 years ago we went to Missouri and I-70 through Indiana was terrible but they were working on it. This year we took I-70 to Indianapolis then I-74 to I-72 to get to RT 36 across Missouri. They were still working on it in May. We have also taken I-64 across Missouri which is in much better shape and less traffic.

  • Just wait. If completion is scheduled for mid-October, by November 1, I-70 will be dug up again and horribly patched. I give it less than a month after completion. I still prefer taking US 40 across Indiana.
  • The Terre Haute end of I70, MM 0 to East of it was terrible several years ago...blew a toad tire, then couldn't get off for about 10mi. due to concrete barriers. Maybe the East end crew is moving to help the West end crew.
