I just finished reading the laws and regulations for the temporary importation of RV's and vehicles.
Regarding RV's the law is very simple.
The RV gets a 10 year Temporary Import Permit (TIP)
The physical person importing the RV can leave and enter Mexico as many times as wished, the RV can stay behind in Mexico.
In regards to the vehicles with the 180 days, not 6 months "make sure you count the correct days".
When the document is translated there is a misinterpretation, reading in Spanish it states that during the time frame of the TIP permit the vehicle can leave and enter the Mexican territory with the owner but the owner or importing person can not leave the vehicle in Mexico while being out of Mexico and there is no need for a new set of documents during the time frame that the TIP is valid by going out and re-entering.
With the hostile climate in Washington DC, you can expect that US Citizens will be looked at a lot closer in the coming years, Canadians not at all.
To leave a vehicle with a TIP linked to a tourist visa, take the vehicle to the airport or port to the Aduana (customs) and surrender the vehicle for impounding, just remember that the TIP time keeps running on the vehicle it does not stop and if you come back latter than the time allotted it can be confiscated as an abandoned vehicle.
Times are changing and one of you is going to have a nasty surprise.
