Can't get the link to work either. Hyder is one of those places I wonder why it even exists. Stewart is a nice town, well kept, paved streets, attractive homes and business and Hyder is a dump. (with bears)
Hyder is also the only town in Alaska that does not use the 907 area code, but uses the same one as does BC. Until a few years ago, Hyder kids went to school in Stewart as Hyder didn't have a school. So the Hyder kids grew up singing "God save the Queen" in school. BC paid to educate the US kids without a charge from what I heard. Finally the State of Alaska accepted their responsibility to educate the children of Hwyder and built a school there.
The fish and chips at the Bus in Hyder may be the only redeeming quality to Hyder IMHO. LOL
