The bad part about building a new road is you then have to maintain it for decades if not forever. Much of the funding for roads come from the gas tax and people are driving less, driving more fuel efficient cars both resulting in less tax money available to be spent on graft and road crews. Drive and electric car and pay no taxes for the roads you travel.
We need to spend billions on rebuilding our transportation infrastructure but don't have it. We need to slow down and get used to driving on crappy roads.
Well it doesn't help when the money gets diverted to building turtle tunnels and bicycle trails instead of being used for roads and bridges.
