Ithaca, NY to I-88 east route

Has anyone tried taking Hwy 79 from Ithaca NY to Hwy 206 to I88 at Bainbridge, NY with a motor home? Google Maps shows that as a bit faster than Hwy 13 to I81 to I88 as our Garmin RV760 wants to route us. We're new motor home owners and this is our first real trip; we don't want to get stuck on tight mountain roads, but are interested in cutting some time off our route. (2011 Winnebago View 24k)
  • I've pulled our trailer over 79 & 206. 79 is no problem. 206 has some hills and curves, but the road is pretty smooth, and its not like a mountain pass out west or anything. I would guess 79/206 will save some time even with the MH and it is a pretty drive. 13 to 81 is going to be flatter but you'll also get the construction in Binghamton. If you prefer the mostly interstate route, its not that much longer.

Hopefully your MH rides a little smoother than our truck did on I-88. That road always has much less traffic than I-90, but the concrete joints were brutal!
  • I have done 206 from Whitney point to Bainbridge. Nice road not narrow but I do not think it will be much faster, my mapping software claims your way to be no faster than the interstate. But definitely nicer. Specially with the leaf change.
However torrential rains are forecast for the area tonight and tomorrow which may the interstate a safer bet
