Jackson, WY to Livingston, MT

Next week we are headed from the Jackson/Tetons area to Livingston/Yellowstone area. We are pulling a 44ft 5th wheel. Any roads/passes to avoid? i have seen that some go around and into Idaho to make this trip. Also, any good RV parks we should consider in either location? Thanks in advance.
  • As cheteckie noted above, just drive thru the park heading towards Gardiner, then go north up to Livingston. You will want to make a visit to the Mammoth area to view the mud pots, etc.
  • Normlobo, you're going thru next week w/o reservations? Good luck. Best RV park in the Tetons, IMO, is Colter Bay RV Park (not to be confused with Colter Bay CG, which has no hookups). Haven't camped in Paradise Valley yet, but there are a couple CGs there, including a KOA, which get good reviews - and great views!! (Paradise Valley is between Gardiner & Livingston.) Rocky Mt RV Park in Gardiner is decent.
  • There is about a 5-6 mile segment of the road in Yellowstone leading to the Gardiner exit that is all torn up right now. You can get through OK, but it's not a fun drive. It's closed at night.
  • We generally go through Grand Teton, and through Yellowstone to Garnier, and then head north to Livingston.
