If I had a tow vehicle I would wire a hidden switch that interupts power to the coil, so the vehicle will turn over but never fire. Then just shrug and say rompio. If it won't turn over they will suspect a kill switch, if it does turn over but not fire, they may not. Maybe those with tow vehicles should keep them empty of fuel when in transit so they can't go far.
I have a handheld spot tracker that I lash to the luggage rack of my RV when I am on the road. It sends out the position every 10 minutes. The chances of them climbing up on the roof are slim. I am planning to buy a spot trace and mount it under my fridge vent which is plastic. I can run power to up the vent from the fridge compartment. It comes with a USB cable that I can plug into a 12 V adapter. $99 for the unit then $99 a year, same price as a fuel fillup. Won't help much if they force me to unhook the RV, so maybe I will find a spot on the truck instead for it.
