Although the philosophical discussion is interesting, we have our own thoughts on it, and that is that you can be in the wrong place at the wrong time anywhere on the planet. Those who feel safer not really living in the spirit of adventure, carry on !
Now for the more practical question. I've read here that "up and around" is the way to be safer. Is the suggestion to go north from Lazaro Cardenas up into central Michoacán, past Uruapan, then Zamora, Mazamitla, and back down through Colima ? Or is it to go through Zamora, south shore of Lake Chapala, then back down to PV (our destination) via Tepic ? We have a 25 ft 5th wheel, and a dirty 8 year old truck. We've done the Michoacán coast about 8 times and have had not a moment's discomfort, despite warnings some years. I know it only takes one time, so does anyone think that there will be more/better security for the next few weeks or are we sticking our necks out ? We're in Zipolite, so the travelling question is not theoretical. RYV
