Kansas City to Canon City, Co to Salida, Co
This will be our first long trip with our fiver and we have a question. Our rig isn't really equipped for mountain driving so we're wondering just how much of a grade to expect between these 2 towns...

If your trip is happening in the next week be aware that there is a large fire occurring along US50 between Canon City and Salida, near Coaldale. So there is a lot of emergency equipment and personal moving in the area.
As far as needing a "Jake" brake, it would be an exhaust brake for your model Ford. It would be helpful but if you use lower gears and intermittent braking you should be fine. That stretch of US50 isn't too hard to drive, IMO.
