Kentucky turnpikes

We plan to try the Western Kentucky and Purchase turnpikes in our trip south this fall. Just wondering if these roads are maintained to standards similar to Interstates. Is there a lot of truck traffic? And are there rest areas like you find on Interstates?
  • Great parkways and almost no trucks, little other traffic.

We will travel all the way from Corbin to Land Between the Lakes and the Tennessee border in September.

We have traveled the Purchase Parkway, Western Parkway, and Bluegrass Parkway many times. We have made that our regular route from East Texas to Lexington.
  • Great roads, built close to interstate standards. They all used to be tollways until the bond issue to build them was paid off.

And in Kentucky, the are referred to as parkways, not turnpikes. If you look for Western Kentucky Turnpike you won't find it.
