- CrodadExplorerStay on 10 over the Miss. bridge then take the Lobdell exit. head north and it merges with 190. Watch your speed in Livonia, Krotz Springs and Port Barre.
- artguysExplorerDannyabear1 has it right...if by PAIN your'e referring to the quality of I 10, from BR to the Texas state line it's in great shape. I 10 is a busy shipping/big truck transit platform, it will always be busy. You say your'e in no hurry...190 from BR to Vidor Texas is not a bad choice other than just a few rough spots, mainly the bridge over the basin. You can catch it by taking I 110 north or going over the Mississippi bridge and on the west side first exit(not hwy 1) go north and get it there.
- prichardsonExplorerIf you avoid rush hours Baton Rouge is not a problem. I-10 has a rough stretch between Henderson and Lafayette but the rest is in good condition. US190 east of Opelousas is no better condition wise than I-10. West of there it is good. From I-10 for Sam Houston JOnes SP use US171 North (Moss Bluff). I don't remember the exit number. Should you want to go to Kinder exit at US165 North.
- campiglooExplorerComing from Pensacola you should be on I-12. There is no good route or bypass. The trick is is hit BR after 9:00 am and before 3:00 pm. A third lane has been completed from east of Denham Springs and has helped tremendously. You can avoid the bridge by taking I-110 north and exit 190 east. Keep to the right lane when approaching to avoid the I-10 west bridge. 190 is a good 4 lane hwy most of the way to I-49. Take 49 south to Lafayette and connect to I-10 west. Stop on 190 in Krotz Springs at Billy's Quick Stop, on the left with plenty of parking, and treat yourself to boudin balls. Like Danny said, watch your speed coming over the bridge into Krotz Springs. Not your mamas café is good.
- Dannyabear1ExplorerThe PAIN will be getting to and thru BR, there is no problem west of BR to the TX state line. Hwy 190 west of Krotz Springs is very rough for the most part, also 2 or 3 'speed traps' on 190 in small towns (Livonia and Krots springs come to mind) and several spots where speed limit is reduced to 45
Very nice RV park at the casino in Kinder, Sam Houston SP is very old park, but I haven't been there in years. - SpleenstomperExplorerOn highway 190 in Livonia there is a nice and delicious but slow and expensive restaurant called "not your mama's cafe". If you have time like more than an hour, stop and eat. They may have prices on a website.
- 2BNOT2BExplorerI will assume that you want the exit off of I-10 to 190.
Actually there are two:
1. Exit 153 which is just before the end of the bridge, it will say LA 1, Port Allen and Plaquemine. (I personally do not like this one, easy to get confused when going on to 190.)
2. Exit 151, turn right and you will run into 190. (easy). Exit 151 will be the next exit after 153, about 1 - 1 1/2 miles.
You mentioned Kinder, if you are going to overnight in Kinder go North on 165 to the Casino, nice RV park.
Safe travels, Bill
