Laird Springs access??

This past August we blew past Laird Springs on the way to AK and didn't stop as we were a bit pushed for time. This year we are headed back to AK in late July and would be around Laird Springs in early August. We'd like to drop in to Laird Springs for a while mid morning then push on.

I have read about crowds there in the summer and am concerned about access and parking for our rig. We are in a 31 foot MH and will be pulling a toad.

Is there easy in and out and pull through parking at Laird Springs for a MH and toad?

Is it seriously crowded in early August?

We couldn't tell much in our drive by last summer and I can't get enough resolution off Google maps to see a sat view to get a feel for it.

  • We stayed one night at Liard Hot Springs in mid-August of 2013. We arrived about 2:00 PM, immediately got a camping spot (our truck and trailer combo is 41-ft. long), then set up and went in for a soak before dinner. The following night we stayed at Toad River Resort--one of our favorite campgrounds on our entire 3-month western Canada-Alaska trip.
  • Another winter view, where we parked along the inner side of the loop for the day & night.

The rest area on the other side of the highway is also an option, often used by semi-trucks. In the rain, it can be very muddy though.

  • I've been to Liard (not Laird, to make your Googling more effective) many times and have never seen parking to be a problem, though I haven't seen any DP/toad combos there on a busy day. The day use area is very large. As Yukoner said, if it is a problem there is virtually unlimited parking across the highway.
  • This is the day use area in April 2006;)
Sorry haven't got a crowded summer shot.

  • If you like there is a large truck pullout directly across the highway from the Hotsprings entrance you can pull in there and walk across to check things out.
The day use area in there is a roundabout I have seen the longer rigs park on the inside edge of the circle.
Staff at the entrance will give you the right info.
A couple of hours gives you time for a nice soak and leisurely walk in and out on the boardwalk.
    Enjoy!
