Can you speak to the question of security while the vehicle is in impound? There was some mention earlier of vandalism or theft.

Only the person that is linked to the RV's temporary importation permit is not allawed to leave with out the RV, the wife that does not appear on the Temporary Importation Permit can leve Mexico at any time, she has nothing to do with the importation of the vehicle.

What the Mexican Government is trying to prevent is persons bringing vehicles, mainlly cars, and selling them to the cityzens of Mexico and avioding the Aduana, cars in Mexico have always been a little more expensive than in the US.

This was more prevalent in the past, since Mexico has had an auto industry for many years, FORD, CHEVROLET, CHRYSLER, RENAULT, and later some japaneese makes.

Today they have allowed other makers to import and sell European cars, some that can not be imported to the U.S.A.

Thinking that Mexico is a sleepy backwards country is WHRONG this country is very advanced in many areas, and we should respect them and not try to pullwool over their eyes, they will let you slip so far and then bring the curtain down hard, the tourist industry wants tourist to have a nice laid back beautifull vacation, they just ask that you do not brake the laws.

Just curious, as our plan this year will be the same, as my wife has to fly back home for a week of work When I mentioned previously that she flew out from PV and back....... her name was not on the permits for the auto and RV..........does that make a difference?

It's not about the legal aspect. It's about people knowing the rules. If they choose to break them, that's their choice.

The problem arises when someone doesn't know (like the boats and yachts that were confiscated for lack of knowledge or not caring about the rules) and then they say Mexico is corrupt, they were taken advantage of, why weren't the rules posted, and so on.

People can do what they want in Mexico, but we have rules. Just like in other countries, why did the policeman stop me for speeding and not anyone else? Well, that's how it works. In the case of the yachts, they decided to set an example and now Mexico is a bad place.

Illegal, yes. People still do this. TIP tied to FMM? Don't know, there are no TIPs in both Baja estados. When leaving there my rig and old pickup, without any intent to ever bring them back to Canada, as a precaution I took "un autobus" to the border and then a flight home. It was also a little cheaper then flying out of Mexico. 2,000 miles of gas and 6 hotels one way is more than my pickup is worth.

Gotta weigh these comments by the sum of the parts.

Not only was I challenged upon return by INM At Zihuatanejo, I was marched forthwith to the Banjercito window and instructed to pay a one thousand MN peso fine. I got a receipt. When I turned in my car papers at Sonoyta I got my ass chewed out yet again and had to have the Aduanero "amend" my car papers or Banjercito would not cancel them.

One person experiences are worth little. An database needs to be established. I feel I really got processed while other folks skid by on two wheels. Doesn't matter. it happened, therefore it can happen therefore smart folks will take it under consideration.

Now that I am a citizen I face an entirely different bookshelf of regulations.

Nope it does not help, speaking from experience. It really depends on the Airport. They are really sticky about this in PV. Manzanillo, not so much.

IT is, however, illegal. I would only risk it in an emergency.

Having a round trip ticket might help.
Copies of all supporting documentation as to where, when and why you're leaving the country might be good to have.

We have been getting Out TIP ..On Line for the last four or five Years. This is for Both the Motor Home (10 Year Permit) and the Tow Car (180 Day Permit).

We have obtained Our Visitor Permit (FMM) at the border and at No time has the method of Transport ever even been mentioned.

In all cases there have been absolutely no problems,nor have We ever been asked to produce Our Documents while in Mexico.

Granted We have not had to Fly Home Ourselves,but!

We have had travelling companions that have had to return to Canada mid Trip for a Family Emergency and another who has Flown out to catch a Cruise Ship in Fort Lauderdale for a Two Week Cruise in the middle of Her Mexican Winter Trip!

At no time did any of them have any sort of issue doing this!

Was it Legal ???? I really don't know ,but I do know that They were never hassled and are currently at Home in Canada,not in Jail!
