Not only does this apply to getting whacked with a vehicle passing you while you're making a left turn, if the trailng vehicle rear-ends you while you are in your own lane making a left you are at fault. How many times have I ridden with gringo drivers following Mexican drivers...
The car ahead suddenly swerves into an empty oncoming lane then makes a left. The gringo pounds a fist on the steering wheel yelling "Stupid idiot does not know how to drive!" The fireworks start when I turn my head and say "Far from being stupid - he is just obeying the law"
