Logan, UT - Stanfield, OR

Preliminary planning.

Not in any rush to get between these two places in our plans but just kinda looking for some input as to FHU places to stay and things to do. We are more into nature type things and don't need speedboat rides or golf courses !

Thanks.

  • Geez, looked at Farewell Bend; not sure how you get a site -- very popular.

Have driven 20 and 26 several times and wanted to continue up this time heading for the OR Coast via the Gorge - which we have not done for several years. Last year we stopped at Declo and Caldwell and then cut over.

Just asking for input as we like to try and find new things all the time.

And this Forum is really neat, helpful and special.

    Thanks.
  • The Snake River gorge at Twin Falls is nice. There are views from mall parking lots on by the highway bridge of the river. There is a drive down into the gorge, but you probably don't want to take the trailer down.

Other than that I84 stays out in the open, with lots of irrigated farm land in the west.

Irrigation water around Boise and Ontario comes from Lake Owyhee, a reservoir created by a early version of the Hoover Dam. There's a nice state park and campground on the lake. Can be windy and sunny. Also a bit of a drive off the the main highway. Farewell Bend is closer to the Interstate.

After Ontario I84 climbs into low mountains, and doesn't exit until Cabbage Hill and Pendelton.

US20 and 26 are alternative routes across Oregon that have been discussed numerous times. Dito for routes across the Oregon Cascades.
  • Lauren - we have stopped several times (o/n) at Farewell Bend S.P. on our way west.
Where on the coast will you be? We will be at Newport beginning July 6 for a couple of months.

  • I am looking for stops and things to do BETWEEN those two locations.

Stanfield was picked only because of the distance along the route was good and there seems to be a good FHU rv park for the overnight; won't even unhook.
  • Push on to the gorge or stop overnight at Emigrant springs at the top of Cabbage Hill. Much cooler.
  • mot too much in Stanfield to do. BUT in saying that if you do find something you can do it in one night for sure.
  • What the heck you got going in Stanfield? Baker City has the oregon trail interpretative center. Farewell bend state park is where the oregon trail left Idaho. Weiser has an old time fiddlers convention some time in the summer.
