Longview Washington... to central cal... Columbia gorge?

Visiting the inlaws.. DW (that's me) wants to head down the coast. We're in a 40ft motorhome with no toad. DH.. wants new route maybe through the Columbia Gorge.. Without a toad, scenic driving will ...

There is no mountain. There is a climb out of the gorge onto the eastern Oregon Plateau. Then it is fairly level.
It is about 2500 foot climb out of the gorge over about 10-15 miles.
