Looks like Police in Canada take online fraud seriously

I thought this was interesting enough to share.

We're selling our motor home so have an ad in RVTrader in Canada. Yesterday, I found out that someone had copied my images and description and put their own ad (for significantly less than mine). Looks like the did it either Saturday or Sunday.

Well, my wife got a call from the police today and it sounds like someone tried to contact the bogus seller and based on the response, suspected the ad was fraudulent and there was an investigation and it sounds like they charged the person with fraud today!!! Sounds like the police are really on top of these things.

Having shopped for cars and motor homes on Craigslist, I've seen tons of bogus ads but I never thought the anyone was ever charged cause of it.

  • Pretending to be military is a popular one because it gives an excuse for not being able to handle the transaction in person.

I have several online ads for my moho, including RV Trader and Craigslist, and get bombarded with scammers contacting me via email. Some of them are passing themselves off as members of the military.
  • I had one going in February from Labrador. He said he had this 34 foot motorhome and upon receiving my payment the motorhome would be delivered free to Vancouver Island in three days.

I guess he was going to air mail it from the nearest airport.
