When I started this "series" of articles back about a month ago I warned in a paragraph then, and I probably should repeat it now, that I would not be a cheerleader or like a guidebook writer but much more like the Author Paul Theroux who can be acerbic and downright crotchety at times about what he sees and encounters.
My goal is to give an honest description of what I see and do and apply some careful thought to it, hopefully to peel back some of the layers of hype and get to the real heart of a place. Too much of what we get, not only here but in the mainstream media, is just simple cheer-leading or the type of writing that is more like "What I Did on My Summer Vacation" essays you did in school.
At times I am sure to make a few people upset with me as I write about their favorite places or campgrounds.
My goal is to entertain as well as enlighten a bit. I hope that sometimes I succeed.
