Louisiana-112 Forest Hill to Lecompte

Anyone recently taken the LA-112 shortcut between Forest Hill to Lecompte (US165 to US71)to get to Paragon Casino in Marksville? Used to take the motorhome that route and recall some lower tree limbs along this road, and now pulling a foot taller 5th wheel (13'4").... Don't care to damage a new roof!

Thanks!

  • Thanks Laman....I've looked at that route on the map, but figured it was a smaller road with a lot of local traffic/stops, so never traveled it. You still have to go through the middle of Bunkie with tight right-hand turns, narrow road with no shoulders, and low city limbs too. I used to come up I-49 to LA-115 through Bunkie in the 40' motorhome with TOAD when we would stop over to visit in Lafayette, and it got interesting through there at times. I'll probably stick with the northern route as should be the same timewise, although a little more miles....oh well, what's a few gallons of diesel compared to narrow roads and slow traffic! :B
  • I will give you another route that I have traveled many dozens of times from Houston to Bunkie that will bring you through the country but save you that backtracking when you go up to Lecompte. On Hwy 65 at Oakdale take Hwy 106 east all the way to Hwy 29 than north to Bunkie. Look at on the map and you will see that it is a much staighter shot than the Forest Hill to Lecompte to Bunkie route.
There is a enough 18 wheeler traffic on that route plus RV traffic going to Chicot State park that low lying limbs should not be a problem.

BTW Avoyelles parish is my home and sister-in-law is art director at the casino, I know that area pretty well, and like the casino park.
  • Even if you don't spend a nickle in the casino, they have several great restaruants

  • I see your delimea, but honestly, the road is better, the speed limit higher and the clearances greater on 165 to Alex and back down La 1
  • That is one of the issues with a reservation casino. There is little reason for the State of LA to invest in infrastructure when it sees very little in return.

La. 1 from Alexandria would be a better route

Yep it would....just adds about 45 minutes to the trip when coming up US165 from I-10. Same thing when I come up I-49 from Lafayette...just no easy way to jump over to LA-1 from there either.

With the steady stream of busses and cars from I-10 to Paragon Casino, you'd think one of the connector roads would have been widened by now...
