- wintersunExplorer IIThe states all have websites that list problem bridges and overpasses with their height restrictions so that this information is available to truckers. It lists them by highway route so you can plan accordingly.
Most of the restrictions in the west are actually width restrictions of 12 feet or less more often than height restrictions. - NHIrishExplorerSeveral...one on a police directed detour. That was a real mess. I always check routes that are new to me. We are about 13'4 so I need to pay attention.
- HalmfamilyExplorerNever a low bridge but did take a low telephone line down with my front A/C, luckily no damage except for the telephone line I left laying on the side of the road. Glad it wasn't a power line..
- notruffinitExplorerI found one in New York. My 5er is 13'2". Trestle was marked 12'8". Didn't notice the signs until I was parked 100 yards in front of it and no where to turn around. I all worked out though. I was on the low side of the road and was able to drive under, but I sure went slow. Made it with about 2" to spare.

We traveled secondary/backwards majority of time........so 'low underpasses' were always a possibility. Oh well...no biggie.
Clearance signs were well placed. Plenty of fore warning.
That's our plan as well. We've been all around the west, not many low underpasses around here. I am concerned about traveling the midwest and further east. We enjoy the back roads, and just want to make sure I educate myself as much as possible before heading east. I like the idea of the truckers atlas, and was looking at getting a truckers gps. I have seen the videos showing the trailer stuck under the over pass. Do not want that to happen.
Thanks for all the Reponses.
Know how tall your rig is.
Measure it....don't rely on some brochure number.
Measure it hooked up from highest point (usually top of A/C Unit)
We measure 13'4"
We don't use GPS, Apps, or any other techno thingy.
Old school..paper map to sorta plan route.
Mostly just point nose and GO.
Part of the idea of FT was to travel so we did.
All over the USA. Up/Down Back/Forth East/West North/South
So when we came upon a low overpass we just turned around and picked a different route.
Part of the travel fun.
We liked surprises........kept the boring away. - msgtordExplorer

buying lunch meat sold by the gram. I didn't have a clue, so I ordered 8 slices. And I still don't know the answer to that one. - AllworthExplorer II480 grams = 1 pound (close enough)
4 Meters = 13 feet. - Jim_ShoeExplorer III know that my "C" is less than 12 feet because I drive it through a 12' x 12' door in my storage building. Driving thru Canada on my way to Alaska, MPH and KPH are marked on the speedometer, so I was good to go - until I was facing a bridge in downtown Calgary one morning. The clearance on the sign said "5 meters". Not wanting to drive to Alaska in a Class C convertible, I pulled over. Checked my trusty homemade cheat sheet that said a meter was 3 feet and change, so I drove through. But the one that stumped me in a grocery store was buying lunch meat sold by the gram. I didn't have a clue, so I ordered 8 slices. And I still don't know the answer to that one.
- GoPackGoExplorerIt all depends on your definition of 'low'. I pull a fiver that's about 13'2" so that defines 'low' for me.
I got Allstays low clearances database and I check my route each day against it before I drive.
