Low bridges

I saw a list one time on here that had the low bridges listed state by state. I am going to splash magic campground in pa and want to make sure I am not going to come across any low bridges

  • I read somewhere that published bridge clearance heights are not always accurate. When a road is repaved, unless the old pavement was removed, the clearance number is not going to be correct. The new layer of asphalt will make the road higher, and thus, the clearance lower than what is listed. The piece I was reading said the clearances listed for Lower Wacker Drive in downtown Chicago have not been changed since extensive road work was done.

So I guess I take thatt to mean all clearance data should be viewed as approximations?

Actually (I have a copy) it doesn't list low clearances for the smaller secondary and such roads... Like that back road to get to the off-the beaten path RV park.

If you have a GPS you can add this POI file to your GPS
  • If you go to the America's Independent Trucker's Association, Inc. website, click on Information, accept their terms, select the state you want, then the low clearances, it will give you a list by highway and location for that state. Just realize this is not all inclusive and there maybe other low clearances, especially if semis don't normally travel that particular area.
  • If you are running one of the navigator packages, you can use the overlay that you can download over at the Discovery Owners website.
