Manitoulin Island

We would like to visit Manitoulin Island the middle of Sept. We would like a site right on the water for the view. I did a search and the best info I found was Batmans but it was dated 2008. Is that still the case or are there others? We are not going to take the toad. Any not to be missed places/sights we could get to in the RV? Thanks
  • You might want to consider taking the ferry from Manitoulin to Tobermory on the Bruce Peninsula. We just did it last week and it was an enjoyable journey. It is expensive, but since you will not have a toad, the cost is more reasonable considering the fuel saved.
  • We were a little further north than manitoulin a few weeks ago....we had the furnace on. It went down to 7C at night, around 40F.
  • Mid September can get chilly, not unusual to get frost. Bring your woolies.
  • It is a wonderful area. Northern Ontario has some of the most beautiful scenery in North America.

I would suggest driving around Georgian Bay up to Espanola and then down to the Island. It is the longer route but you see a lot along the way

If you have time the route from the Soux to Wawa is beautiful. It is a full day drive one way. Is your trip planned yet?
  • Here is some more campgrounds on Manitoulin . Things quiet down after the labour day weekend (this weekend) so sites may well be available. Sorry cant figure out the link.

  • I left my travel job, which included Manitoulin Island in 1972.

It's a lovely place. Accommodation may be limited, but what you can enjoy is really nice. No matter what the changes, I'm sure you can have a good stay.

  • There is not too much on Manitoulin Island. Since there is not a lot you need to make reservations. Also if you are taking the ferry across from Tobermory to South Baymouth you had better check reservations for the ferry. There is only one motel on the island that I know of. The thing is make sure you call anywhefe you would like to stay. Accomodation of any type is very limited.
