X2 on the advice above as far as the route. September can be quite busy here with the leaf peepers and Elkmont might be full. Another option for you is to stay outside of G'burg on 321 (use exit 435), that would make it convenient to get back to I-40 and be only 10 or so miles out of the city. Smoky Mountain Premier Campground is big rig friendly, fairly new at only 2 yrs. old and gated. Lots of other choices on 321 too but this one was built with motor coaches in mind. Heads up on a stop at The Island, you will see a very big ferris wheel if you go down Veterans Pkwy, That's the new entertainment complex "The Island" and I think its a "must do" stop with a Margaritaville and a Paula Deens restaurant along with some kitchy stores. And stop at Bush Beans too as you will go right by it on 411. Good café for lunch and a cute museum on the Bush Bean history. Its at the rt. 92 junction, and don't go up 92 or you will come into Dandridge that has a VERY narrow bridge. Not total disaster if you do as you will be able to turn around at the marina just before the bridge. Enjoy your visit.
