I don't think they'd bring you home if you sprained your wrist, etc. :) For that you would just need a x-ray/clinic. I think that's what the OP is asking about.
When we were in Canada I had a gallbladder attack and went to the clinic in Jasper. I was seen immediately, received medication and the doctor called 2x as we were traveling to see how I was doing. Fantastic service for $60 cash! We didn't buy extra insurance.
However, a trip to Emergency in a hospital will NOT be a $60.00 bite. It will be a grand to get into the line-up, up front, please. Please do NOT base your decision on whether or not to buy on one person's good luck story. Just as in non-residents vising the US must have health insurance. To do anything less is so fool-hardy.
