I don't want to keep this off topic but I must respond to Briansue's comment that champion show dogs are the only ones worth paying for. We have never had a purebred and never plan to. We are not interested in showing. Only purebred dogs can become so called champion show dogs under AKC rules. Where did all these breeds come from if not from cross breeding?
Trekker, our Lab/Golden cross was purchased at a reasonable price from a home breeder who bred her own yellow lab to a relative's golden/lab cross. The dogs lived in her home and were well cared for under excellent conditions.
Trekker was a wonderful dog, an excellent pet and an excellent tracking dog.
We did pursue the shelter dog route but the local shelters would not let us adopt because our one acre rural property was not fenced.
Our only dog now is Tia, rescued from the beach in Playa La Ropa.
Now, back to the OPs topic.
