Mercedes Sprinter in Mexico

Are there anyones with experience on traveling Mexico with a Mercedes Sprinter chassis Rv?
I am planning a trip to Yucatan, leaving Quebec (Canada) in a few days.
Can you tell me if you had any diesel problem? That's what I am looking for, experience of peoples who have done it.

Thanks a lot.

I agree, that is why I asked-- different answer depending on model year/engine.
  • Two years ago we took a 2011 V6 Roadtrek Sprinter to Mazatlan and traveled around in that area for three months. Used 5 tanks of fuel with out a problem. The one thing you must do is keep the RMPs at 2000 or above to keep the exhaust system hot in order to burn off excess fuel and don't let it idle for very long even when you are stopped. If you are stopped in traffic for a minute or two turn the engine off. This is true even in the US. With the slap stick shifter it is easy to keep the RPMs up especially in slow traffic.

  • May make a difference if the older 5 cylinder (less emissions equipment) or newer V6.
  • no problem for the 5 cal.Have taken my 06 view to the yucatan for last 3 years
  • Alain: It is my understanding that many Sprinter owners in the USA are having problems with the emission system. I wouldn't take that unit into Mexico and use the non ULSD. Could make the problems even worse.
