Mesa Verde to Bryce NP in one day in a 25 ft Class C

Best route? One day or so... Thanks! Google suggests 491 S from Mesa Verde to 160 to 89 on to Bryce NP. Any issues going that way? Appears to be the fastest. This would take place in Early April 2016.

  • Easy drive. Mostly desolate (but scenic) landscape until Kanab. AZ portion on reservation land. Gas stations in Kayenta, Page, and Kanab (and some more north of Kanab).

On edit: Still scenic north of Kanab, just not as desolate :)
  • Thanks folks! I am putting together a two week loop in and out of Los Angeles. I appreciate the insight. My only big concern with our plan is getting from Mesa Verde to Bryce/Zion easily in Apri with the possibilty of snow and winter driving conditions. I am not at all familiar with the above mentioned route so any info is most helpful. Thank you.
  • I was also going to warn of snow along the route. The North Rim typically will not open until some time in May, due to feet of snow on the ground along highway 67, south of Jacob Lake, where it connects to Highway 89 (or is it 89A?)

Bryce is high elevation, with part of the park at 9,000' elevation. That part will still have snow on the ground in April, but it is towards the southern end of the scenic road inside the park. . .

Yes Monument Valley is worth the side trip, if you have the time. I don't know what I will have for lunch next week, and you are planning April? I guess you have the time to plan, so go for it!

    Have fun camping!

    Fred.
  • 160 to 98 to 89. All good two lane roads. Too bad you don't have more than one day, for a stop at Page and small detour to Monument Valley. Bryce can still get snow in April.
