We have done that. We have even gone to one crossing to do paperwork and then crossed at another crossing. We have heard they may want to check numbers but they have only checked ours when we return and they remove the permit stickers. We go to a crossing that is not busy and easy to do paperwork by Columbus,NM south of Deming - we do not bring vehicles there - we do paperwork - then we drive to Laredo, TX to cross. Saves hassle of long lines and hours doing paperwork. Never had a problem and have done this a few times. Some people do paperwork online but we never have as we know we have to stop anyway and we have to pay and all that - we have to leave a credit card deposit etc. We have to do passports and all that sort of thing - buy permits or whatever. I am sure there are other ideas.
