Mexican cell phone options

Question

Hi Guys,Just wondering what the best cell phone provider would be for my up coming trip to Mexico. Not sure if I should go with a U.S. provider or buy a phone locally, a good data plan would be nice also  ....muchas gracias

Buy your phone locally, several good companies.  Telcel, IUSACell, Movistar all have good plans including data, calls to US and Canada, etc.  All are prepaid and can be recharged at most OXXO stores or similar or Walmart cashiers.

Several years ago I bought a prepaid Verizon phone at Walmart.  I only use it when travelling to Canada or Mexico. Monthly charge is $45 + $10 for international calls. International prepaid time is 1,000 minutes. Works for us!

For best coverage get Telcel in Mexico.  You can go to any OXXO convenience store and purchase a cheap one for pay as you go.
