Pemex PREMIUM gasoline all of it, every last drop, by law has to meet sulfur standards. At the moment this means 100% imported fuel. From the USA. Essentially Pemex Premium is Top Tier base fuel. Refined in Mexico MAGNA has anywhere from 2 to 5 times the amount of sulfur as USA EPA standards permit for motor fuel gasoline. Some engines do not mind the sulfur. Others hate it.
Sorry but I explicitly promised my source of information that "I will not ever give the faintest hint or clue as to point of origin"
Not only would he be fired, but federal prosecutors (PGR) would most definitely charge him with a felony related to a breach of security.
I weigh every word I write. There are too many fairy tales at it is. The subject of availability of UBA diesel on tourism is sensitive. I offer some information to help prospective diesel owners learn facts. I know little about the effects of high PPM diesel fuel and newer motor vehicles.
Mexico public transportation has delayed the purchase of new diesel vehicles because they are mandated to use only UBA in vehicles to maintain compliance with OEM directives. This is part of the pressure being put on Pemex to get UBA to Mexico (the city). It is a huge political scandal that is ongoing.
Pemex PREMIUM gasoline is imported via Mexican flagged tankers. Fuel enters southern Mexico through Veracruz and Salina Cruz and is transported via "pipa" tanker trucks throughout the south.
There just is not enough ULSD available on the market to support Mexico the city. Modified refinaciones in Villahermosa, and Queretaro are destined to supply Mexico the city.
