It's almost weird that I prefer to RV in the USA.
Not weird at all. We also RV all over most of the US most of the time. But we prefer to visit and RV in Mexico for most of the winter months. We also visit Canada in the Summer. In our current RV we have traveled in 47 of the 48 continental US states. We have also visited 28 states in Mexico. We have been to several of the Canadian provinces. We do not live in fear anywhere we go. But of course we do pay attention and use the standard precautions for travel. We grew up in the "Land of the Free and The Home of the Brave" so we like to think we are free and brave and should not live in fear. Being brave and not being afraid means we don't need to carry guns - anywhere. To clarify - not opposed to guns - grew up with guns - did a lot target shooting - even won trophies - guns can be fun - but we personally do not feel the need to carry - we prefer to be brave. If all persons who cross the border ILLEGALLY
Clarification might be needed here as well. Anyone who pays attention to the news should know more about this. Most of those crossing the border these days are from Central American countries such as Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador which are considered "conflict" countries. There has actually been a decrease in the number of illegal Mexicans in the US in recent years as more jobs become available in Mexico.
There was/is a law - passed and signed by George W Bush in the final days of his presidency which has encouraged women and children from these "conflict" countries to seek asylum in the US. It is certainly a controversial law and open to interpretation. The problem is that there is a need to determine asylum qualifications on an individual basis so those seeking asylum must be granted at least temporary asylum until final determination is made. This law was actually intended to protect people from sex trafficking but it seems there are always lines added to many laws that make them confusing. Please note that this law specifically exempts people from Mexico and/or Canada from seeking such asylum. So here is a bit about the law.......
William Wilberforce Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act of 2008

(2) in paragraph (2), by adding at the end the following: ‘In carrying out this paragraph, the Secretary and the Administrator shall take all appropriate steps to ensure that cooperative efforts among foreign countries are undertaken on a regional basis.’. - Cloud_DancerExplorer IIIf all persons who cross the border ILLEGALLY were to do a Google search for USA crime statistics,....perhaps we wouldn't need "the wall"....:B
Just the crime statistics on any major city is enough to scare anyone.
It's almost weird that I prefer to RV in the USA. But, I no longer post my reasons. It doesn't even matter. - mexicorussExplorer IItimmac is a troll with a nasty attitude according to a private message he sent me.

Trump's plan to make Mexico pay is based on withholding some or all of the $209,432,920 in foreign aid given to Mexico (2012) according to some reports. - Trumpet_PlayerExplorer

Trump build that wall
Reality check - for you and The Donald - both....
Texas has 1,200 miles of border. They have been trying to build that wall for 10 years. They have spent millions on their way to billions. So far they have built about 100 miles - only 1,100 miles to go - at this rate they will be done in 110 years - and spend billions of tax payers money - and those 100 miles were the easiest miles - they haven't started on the more difficult miles yet. Maybe The Donald will pay for it? Mexico sure as heck isn't going to.
"Mexico sure as heck isn't going to." If he is elected, I wouldn't be so sure about that statement. Hopefully you understand that he simply wouldn't be sending Mexico a bill, he would work to apply tariffs that do not exist today. Use those dollars to pay for the wall. Actually pretty simple. - briansueExplorer

did you read the part of all those kidnappings of tourist in the link
I have read these warnings many times in the past - as have most of those of us who travel in Mexico. They do state that most of the crime has to do with criminals killing criminals. Even those supposed US citizens who have been killed in Mexico were probably involved in the drug business in some way. Not to say nothing bad can happen but bad things happen everywhere - which is the point of my post previously. As far as kidnapping? I read this again and again - nowhere do I see the word tourist or US citizen..........
Kidnappings in Mexico have included traditional, "express," and "virtual" kidnappings. Victims of traditional kidnappings are physically abducted and held captive until a ransom is paid for release. "Express" kidnappings are those in which a victim is abducted for a short time and forced to withdraw money, usually from an ATM, then released. A "virtual" kidnapping is an extortion-by-deception scheme wherein a victim is contacted by phone and convinced to isolate themselves from family and friends until a ransom is paid. The victim is coerced (by threat of violence) to remain isolated and to provide phone numbers for the victim's family or loved ones. The victim's family is then contacted and a ransom for the "kidnapped" extracted. Recently, some travelers to Mexico staying at hotels as guests have been targets of such "virtual" kidnapping schemes.
OK - it did say travelers - but not tourists - and no mention of anyone from the US I could find.
And if you think places such as Las Vegas are free from any of these problems you are not paying attention....
Crime rate in Las Vegas, Nevada (NV): murders

2004 131 (10.6)
2005 145 (11.3)
2006 152 (11.6)
2007 119 (8.9)
2008 120 (8.9)
2009 111 (8.1)
2010 107 (7.6)
2011 82 (5.6)
2012 76 (5.1)
2013 97 (6.5)
Last report by FBI and US Dept of Justice says 38,000 carjackings in the US per year.
When you read these reports to scare yourself about Mexico you might take a look at some of the reports other countries put out about the US. - Trumpet_PlayerExplorer

I know many say its safe to travel in Mexico but if your ever kidnapped by the cartels or anyone down there or beaten than robbed than you will wish you have never gone, for me I will keep my travels north of the Mexico border.
Besides I travel with a gun and in Mexico that is automatic jail time expect for the hundreds of thousands of drug cartels, they get a free pass..
Wow, having lived here for more than 30 years, this is all news to me.
Really? All news to you? Maybe living there you missed things like our Marine Sgt. Tahmooressi being held in Mexico for months because he made a wrong turn at the border in San Diego, accidentally ending up in Mexico and happened to have three personal guns (all registered in the US) in his vehicle and was arrested.
Also, take it you are not an American citizen? Try living in a place like Arizona or Texas where they get all the illegal alien traffic committing thousands of crimes (including murder) after crossing into the US. Ask some of us how we feel having this go on? How about the drug cartels that are running in Mexico and trafficking illegal drugs into the US while the government of Mexico looks the other way? The government in Mexico is corrupt and I personally believe you take a huge risk crossing the border into Mexico. Personally, I will stay right here in the US. - timmacExplorer
