Michigan to Arizona in Aug,Sept

We are thinking of travel from Michigan to Arizona late August. Anything we need to be aware of. We have traveled a stretch of road in the past on I30 around texarkana that just about beat us to death. Has that stretch of road been repaired? Any other suggestions?
  • Depending on where you are going in AZ it may still be very hot and the monsoon may still be around.
  • I 30 in Texarkana is not to bad now days most of the construction is complete. You could miss I 30 and take I 70 I44 I40 to AZ.
  • Why would anyone come to Arizona in August? Unless you are planning Northern Az?

Numerous cool climate areas in AZ in the north or eastern areas. A few in the southern part of the state as well.
  • Where in Arizona? Coming from most places in Michigan, the shortest and fastest route to northern Arizona will usually be whatever takes you to I-80/I-90/I-94 to I-55, I-44, then I-40. From I-40, I-17 down to Phoenix?

Coming down to Indianapolis and across I-70 to St Louis is at least an hour longer, and coming all the way down through Little Rock, Dallas, Odessa to I-10 is a whole lot longer than it needs to be, to get to I-10. Taking I-44 to Oklahoma City, then I-35 to I-30 or I-20 would be shorter and faster.

However, it all depends on the places you want to see on the way.
