Minneapolis

Question

We're heading up to Canada and was looking for advice on routing.
Coming from the east GPS routing wants to take you up I-94 through Minneapolis -- This looks like there would be traffic and congestion. Instead we're considering just going straight across I-90 and up I-29 even though it adds more in miles - We'd like to avoid traffic and congestion - Any input on going through the Minneapolis area ?

Minneapolis has a couple bi-passes (I494 and I694), both are approximately the same mileage. If you time your travel to miss rush hours, it's not bad. We travel that route, a couple times per year. Went through last Monday, about 10:00 AM, on I694. Little to no construction and traffic was pretty good.

Currently, I29 has some construction going on, North and south of Fargo, ND.
