Agree... you want to drive the Peak to Peak in the daytime when you can take in the scenery. Looking at All Stays, there are several national forest campgrounds between Central City and Estes Park. There are also some along I-70 before you get to Idaho Springs, several around Lake Dillon, which I think would be a fairly ideal stopping point. I recommend reservations for most of them. The only one I'm at all familiar with is Heaton Bay on the north side of the lake - easy to get to from the freeway, and it was always one of my Mom's favorite campgrounds.
