Montana to Michigan via US2

Next summer's trip to Glacier National Park is already planned, however the return trip home is up in the air. Instead of heading back using I90/I94, has anyone ventured back east using the US2 highway? I know it would add many hours of travel time going through the small towns in Montana, North Dakota, Minnesota & Wisconsin, but is it worth it? We will have the extra time, and if I can convince my wife that it would be worthwhile, I would like to give it a try. What do you think???

Did that route some 30 years ago - and Yes we all enjoyed it - remember stopping at a small Local RV park on a River and an Incredible SunSet. We did it in the Westerly direction after leaving Edgerton, Wisconsin and visiting old family friends on their farm. If I recall correctly the biggest issue was one afternoon trying to get around what seemed to be miles of Grain Harvesters - Luckily they headed into a field, to harvest, after only an hour or so.

I'll also add that one year, perhaps 9-10 years ago we decided to drive East from Custer, I made the mistake of driving the Interstates back and getting close to Chicago - That was one miserable drive.

Look this over for info - this popped up on a quick Google search.

Let's see if I have this correct - you are driving thousands of miles to get to the wild places of Glacier NP and you want to Know if it is a Good idea to see some More of America, I don't really need to think about that one long, you would be a Fool Not To.

This is from and Old Guy (Held back from using the old fa*t moniker) who grew up in a military family that went coast to Coast at least every 2 years and sometimes every year - Who has driven Coast to Coast more times than I can remember - but still not enough, so when we don't have time to drive we Fly in and drive around - so I think you get it -Just say "We Will" do take your time - stay in the small towns - talk to the people you see/meet - shop in the stores - eat in the restaurants and then, when you get home, after this Great American Road Trip, Tell us all if you didn't enjoy the country, the People, almost as much as the Great National Parks.

So ........Yes talk the Dear Wife into making it a real Road Trip.

    JMHO,
  • Did it a couple of years ago going East.Do it you won't regret it.
  • 2 in the Upper in Michigan is a great drive very scenic but not a drive to get anywhere in a big hurry.
  • Made that trip last July only going west. Rt. 2 is a good road with a lot of it 4 lane. There are plenty of places to overnight and plenty of gas stations. I would recommend it as a easy casual drive.
