Still that way today, although these crossing now usually have "electronic monitoring" and directions to check in with the appropriate authorities.
I still know one Alberta farmer, with property in Montana, he usually crosses on a back-road.
There used to be a farm-house north of Havre that was actually was on the border. A survey "error" when they were plotting it out, since the farmer wanted to be in Montana, that's how it was treated. But that was enough years ago, who knows what they do now. Although I have a vague memory that they might have "adjusted" the border around the house.
