The safest way to cross that border might be to walk across in one's underwear, so they can see there's nothing to hide. Even though I'm an honest person, the thought of that crossing makes me uneasy... just for fear of what I might have forgotten or missed, in some corner or cranny. I went through TSA security with a fillet knife in the carry-on by mistake once (and they didn't catch it), so I know I'm all too fallible.
