More ULSD info

I have this information from a petroleum industry executive. The Pemex diesel is LSD. In January it is supposed to be ULSD. I was also told that Arco now has some stations in Sonora that have ULSD. 2 in Guaymas and one is supposed to be large enough to handle a 5th wheel. Arco has had the ULSD in Baja ( TJ) for awhile. . Their gasoline is top tier. All the gasoline is low sulfur so you do not need to buy Premium. Mexican regular gasoline is not low sulfur. Chevron stations are selling Pemex fuels. There are a lot of stations with strange names all over Hermosillo. Not associated with any USA suppliers. They are selling Pemex fuel. The internet can be a strange place. Ed White pronounced that ULSD is here. Mexico Mike picked up on that and posted it as fact. Now hundreds of people are believing that the ULSD is everywhere. I am sure some people read the info on Mexico Mike's website and reposted it to other websites. Buyer Beware.

  • The California State Board of Equalization tends to check dispenser accuracy.

I was told by senior SBOE manager Jimmy Hatlin, in 1976 that an overwhelming majority of dispensers caught repeatedly in error belonged to Franchises operated by minorities located downtown in big cities. He recalled one in San Francisco caught 11 times in (don't remember) months.

The fine was $40,000. The man was banned from operating the franchise so his sister took the reins and a month later the dispenser errors started anew.

Hatlin was a sharp cookie at catching weights and measures fraud. He was African American.

It's been 40+ years but I still miss his wisdom.
  • Just imagine going into a station in Canada or the USA and they advertise that you get a complete litre!!!! Not unusual to have a station NOB with bad pumps but purposely altering the pumps is not normal. There are still a few stations between Nogales and HMO where you never see a semi at the pump! They give new meaning to a short litre.

  • The most helpful additives prevent bucking and stalling. Foreign gas stations are offering litros completos. Try adding 8% onto the price of Pemex gasoline and diesel then that's the price you pay at a crooked station.
  • It seems that the stations are trying to make it appear that they are not a Pemex dealer. Some have simply put up new signage with a catchy name. Not associated woith any USA companies and still selling the same Pemex fuel. Others claim to have some super additive that allows you to get more km's from a tankfull. One chain of about 4 stations offers to test the pump before filling your tank. They have those stainless containers with markings. Real scientific looking. They pump 2 litres and show you the level. If it is ok they pour it into your tank. I tried it once just for laughs. It was slightly over the 2 litre mark. The most innovative painted everything pink part of the name is "chica". No they do not have attendants in bikinis but they are all women! Chevron is just a name but they add Techron to the tanker. I predict that compamies like Arco will push Pemex out of the retail business. BTW: There is at least one oil company in Mexico selling DEF fluid. They even have it those big 1000 litre containers. So the ULSD must be just around the corner.

  • Moisheh I saw not one error in your report. Andele!

You have to keep in mind however that there is enormous pressure on websites that promote tourism in Mexico. Tour and campground owners do not want to see any obstacle appearing to thwart a fuller campground or completing the size of the convoy.

They have a dog in the fight.

It is now universally accepted when you see an extraneous gasolinera you will find extraneous fuel. Some weird branded gasolineras are actually independent Pemex dispensers. Foreign investors put their foot down and flatly refused to sell Mexican refined fuel and to be responsible for representing Pemex quality issues. Apparently the slap in the face occurred last summer. Mexico then realized it's goal was to reduce overtaxing it's refineries and relented.

However which way it is done I will rejoice when Mexican refineries are able to satisfy 90% of its domestic market with top tier grade fuel.

Baja California north state. All fuel comes from USA or Japanese refineries. Fuel to extraneous stations include all extraneous additive packages. Signs on dispensers announce additive packages an extra sign on the fuel post screams CON TECHRON! at Chevron stations.

A fuel pipeline connects Guaymas with Cd Juarez. There is a tank farm in the south side of Guaymas that distributes fuel and fuel oil to the large generating plant there. A tanker regularly visits to bring the CFE plant fuel oil from the Salina Cruz refinacion. Then returns to Salina Cruz bearing US refined Pemex Premium red pump fuel. So at least some of the fuel in Guaymas is pumped from El Paso. Availability of ULSD is not known to me. Are there extraneous gasolineras in Guaymas to date? Mazatlan? Manzanillo? Acapulco? How about Queretaro? Puebla? Villa Hermosa? Cancun? No extraneous gasolineras yet in Lazaro Cardenas.
