Motorhome Fire

Had a Airstream coach catch fire last night in Playa Bonita. Happened about 8:30 while the owners were out for dinner. Looks like it started under the hood and burned the front part of the coach. Fire department arrived pretty quick and got the fire out but still will be a total loss

  • MEX: might have been in the Sonoyta reten.

Or maybe he has pyromaniac tendency's and wants a good fire for the marsh mellows

    Who knows.

I am glad that the RV is moving, they are lucky that the whole unit didn't go, this things burn fast.

  • Mex: What does Aduana have to do with a MH fire?????

  • Ssomone can do Mexicans and extraneous both a favor and go to Mexico City and burn the Aduana skyscraper to the ground. ADUANA is a bigger pain-in-the-ass than all the cartels times 10
  • They drove it out. Got a local mechanic to do enough wiring in the steering column to get it going and away they went.
  • I understand that they did have Mexican insurance. An insurance adjuster was out here the very next day. Plan now is to get the coach back to Alberta where he will rebuild it. Apparently he has rebuilt Airstreams before so he does know something about it.
  • 74vette: Was it Mexican insurance? Although they can get US insurance for fire not too many have that. Very few Mexican companies will insure older units. Even then they will use some extremely low value! Having owned a number of classic units I feel for the owners. Not something that can easily be replaced.

  • The fire seemed to start with the batteries in the front of the coach. They did have insurance as it is only one of a very few left of that model.
  • Our vw westy burned to the ground last year about 30 miles from Palenque. Burned for 5 1/2 hours before it was finally put out by the fire dept. Police were very nice and took us to a room at Maya Bel. Spent 2 days with federale and judge getting about 30 pages of paperwork done to mail to Mexico City. The only things salvaged were cat, dog, clothes we were wearing, and I had a belly pack with our visas, passports, title, and the tear off part of the vehicle sticker plus I happened to take a video of the burn. Thought we had it all together to get my husband's name cleared to get sticker in his name again. A big NO to that. Mexico City returned our paperwork within 3 days. Wanting to know who in authority moved the remains of the vehicle, what they did with it, and did we cause harm to the flora and fauna. We were back in the states by then and I got in touch with the federale who helped us and faxed paperwork to him. No response. Vehicle is now in my name. Guess it will never get straightened out.
