If this is ANY consolation (it is intended to be a piece of information)...
In Michoacan, the SSP (federal police) and military told the utterly corrupt local cops to keep doing what they do best...nothing. Just stay the hell the way out of the hair of the feds and military.
Then the SSP and military get moved and concentrated for an intensive sweep in a particular area. The Rurales are involved.
This leaves a VACUUM in other areas. Useless preventivos and transitos are hiding under their bed.
And crooks (NOT NARCOS, run of the mill pendejos, but still dangerous) get a brilliant idea. "Hey man, like La Julia and militares are like gone. so lets go score".
Their time is coming. Once the pressure on the narcos (Los Caballeros Templarios) is reduced due to lack of those remaining in Michoacan, attention will turn to day in and day out scumbags.
RonYVickie, you can do something to help yourself and others. Make COLOR copies of your truck.
"Que Roban de El Punto de Bajo Punta de Armas Cerca Tzintzuntzan Mch". When you get to a rurales PUNTA de REVISION (with no police and no military) hand out a few copies of the image, along with a 200 peso note "NO es MORDIDA es PARA GASOLINA"
This will STUN the rurales. These are country folk and they are in no position to learn or realize cherished tourists are being preyed upon. That photo and 200 pesos for gasoline will ignite a few hundred thousands of words. Tourists will need to help themselves by helping the rurales. Offer the money in full view of several Mexicanos. Just do not do this in the presence of cops of military.
A delayed stall of ten minutes is plenty. But it isn't enough. Tape a sheet of paper to the dash. ESTA DESCOMPUESTO EL CARRO (the car has mechanical problems). Make it visible as can be. If the robbers laugh, look angry, or doubtful, shrug your shoulders in an overly exaggerated way, then turn your back on them and the car.
"If you are stupid enough to rob this car, you will deserve everything that happens"
