I wouldn't be so concerned about the vehicle if mine were stolen. I wouldn't bother to even try and locate it. As long as no one was hurt. Insurance will take care of the material loss
Trouble is you have to jump through incredible paperwork hoops, probably pay 5k in import duty out of your own pocket, plus your RV is trapped in Mexico and you have to return to the US or Canada, buy and outfit another to get it home. So, to me, paying maybe $1000 to outfit the truck with a gps and immobizer seems like a very good investment. Especially when this has happened to 2 people I know this season.
Insurance is only going to cover the blue book value of the vehicle. I am betting most will end up at least $10 k out of pocket with taxes, transport costs, lost possetions inside that are not covered, etc. I talked to one person whose truck went kaput in mexico and he had to bus it to Azizona to buy another so he could get his 5th wheel home. He mentioned motel costs, costs of a Taxi to go around dealers, taxes, paperwprk headaches, etc. All of that added up to a lot.
Suddenly, going to an older Class C or A or a truck camper with the jacks removed, is looking like a good idea.
Ron, lets get together when we both get home, PM me your number in Mission.
