The north has a spirit, an allure that cannot be explained. It has to be experienced. OP is right, it is not all wild untamed wilderness, the highways are good for the most part and food gas and shelter are available although not with the same frequency as in the lower 48. There is no longer any need to carry two complete sets of tires, four drums of fuel and enough groceries and toilet paper to last 6 months. However if a good distance between neighbors is desirable that is available too. Do bring extra cards for the cameras and industrial strength bug dope though, the black flies pack an insatiable appetite for human blood.
