Nacimiento-Fergusson Rd. Hwy. 1 CA

Has anyone driven Nacimiento-Fergusson Rd. between CA Hwy. 1 at Kirk Creek and Hunter Liggett in a motorhome? (24' C ) Comments?

I'm comfortable with my skills, experience, *and* limitations for driving narrow/steep/curvy roads; I just don't always have confidence that others on the road share those feelings! :E ;)
  • We have driven lowbeds, with pilot cars, over Nacimiento/ Ferguson, so corners aren't too tight. We also have run 3 axle watertenders over that road without pilot cars. As with all discussions about roads and what you would drive over this or that, it is all in how comfortable you are with your skills. Slow and easy wins the race, it is a beautiful drive. Watch the east side for military traffic at times.
  • Wow, you are brave if you do that in anything bigger than a pickup. I drove that road a couple of years ago in my truck. It is an awesome drive, but I wouldn't do it with a MH or trailer and I am pretty brave about bringing large MH or trailer on the 1. That road is no joke.
  • Thanks for the replies. I haven't been over the road for about 30 years, and that was in a pickup, not a widebody class C. I know the road is pretty narrow and curvy along many stretches; that's no big deal in itself. The drive will be in a couple of weeks during the week (no weekends!); that may cut down on bit on auto and motorcycle traffic. Thanks again for the information. :D

My C is only 20 feet long and 87" wide. No problem. Your length is probably OK. Width might be a problem. When I last drove the road two years ago, it was mostly narrow, winding, and about a lane and a half wide. On a week day, there was little traffic on the east side of the crest. It got heavier on the western side, where it might be quite busy on a weekend.

Drive cautiously. It is a spectacular trip.
