I agree with the idea to stay across the river from Natchez in Vidalia LA at River view Park.
If you are interested, Plains GA is less than 20 miles from Andersonville, and home of Jimmy Carter. The old Plains High School as well as the Carter farm homeplace are now National Historic Sites. If you are coming from Alabama, you can take US280 from Columbus and stop in Plains (parking for RV is available at both sites) and see both in an easy half day. You can then drive to Andersonville and stay in the small city owned park. It is partially wooded area with hookups. Most are not very level, but there are some that are more so. No commercial amenities, but the village is an easy walk and the NPS maintained Prison and Cemetary is just a mile away across the highway. (you want to drive-- do NOT try to walk along this busy highway). Plan at least a half of day but probably a bit longer at Andersonville.
