Natchez Trace

Looking to do a fall trip from Ohio to New Orleans and would like to do at least a part of the Natchez Trace, but not sure I want to drive the whole thing. Have a 37' fifth wheel and would like some tips on any routes or sections that would be a must see between Nashville and Natchez. Definitely want to visit Tupelo. Also a Duck Dynasty fan and get pretty close to Monroe, LA. Is there anything worth seeing there or campgrounds. Looks like it is and hour or so from Vicksburg. Thanks

  • Strictly observe speed limits. Speeding ticket from a federal park ranger can be pricey.

    Thanks for the great pics.
  • We have driven the Trace from Jackson, Ms. to Nashville. Loved it. Someone mentioned better MPG and that is true. Also, I would agree with the person who suggested Riverview RV Park in Vidalia, La. Very nice park and just across the river from Natchez. Several things to see along the trace. Enjoy the slow ride.
  • We drove the full length of "The Trace" this past April. There is a lot of history to see and do, it is what you male of it. There are two NPS campgrounds on the Trace and plenty in the areas you pass by.
  • Stay at River View RV Park Vidalia MS. Across the river from Natchez MS where the Natchez Trace starts. The RV park is right on the MS River. You can see the barges and tugboats going by. Nice paved walking path along the River. Passport America park. We drove the Natchez Trace the entire way in July. We did it in 2 days. The first day, we started in Natchez MS and drove to mile marker 243 exit, then left to Davis Lakes Corps of Engineers park. We liked site 19. If you go during the week and stop early you shouldn't have a problem getting a site. We paid $7.00 for water & electric water front site. It's near Tupelo so you can drive into Tupelo from Davis Lakes. www.recreation.gov At the far end of the Natchez Trace, we went east to Manchester TN KOA rather than Nashville. We'd been there before. In Nashville we liked Two Rivers Campground.

  • We drove the Natchez Trace, Nashville-to-Natchez, in the Fall of 2010. We loved the road and plan to do it again next spring. I really liked the entire drive and can't pinpoint one section that was way better than the rest. But to get some idea of what the road is like, look at pictures on our travel blog between October 28 and November 2, 2010. The blog address is www.mytripjournal.com/shastadaisy We stayed in some really nice State Parks and COE parks along the way (one was in Tupelo).....and Natchez is a great and historic old river town. Have fun. MaineDon
