+1 on this. Or you could take I-680 in Iowa to I-29 north, to US 30 to Blair NE then take NE 91 west to US 275 north, which would take you to US 20 across the remainder of Nebraska.
If you check rvparkreviews.com there are places to stay in that area of Nebraska. If you wanted to stop in Ainsworth, NE that would be about 350 miles from Des Moines, and there's a nice city park there with electric hookup. Or you could stop in Norfolk, NE (city park there) and then go from there to Chadron, NE where's there's the Nebraska National Forest and Chadron State Park plus other camping options in the Chadron area.
Gets you off the interstate into some areas of Nebraska that are different than what you see on I-80.
