Sounds like it was an interesting trip! I did an internship with Nebraska Game and Parks while in college and got to travel to many rural areas in the Sandhills doing wild grass surveys. Lots of farms were established in central Nebraska in the early 1900s and those farms failed within a decade because of poor soil conditions. There are lots of old abandoned farms in that area that make for some interesting landscape and photo opportunities.
