Pukaskwa is great if you can fit.

Don't think any Ontario Provincial or National Parks up North have water at the sites. But they all have treated water to fill your tank.

We run that route each summer on our way to Red Lake in northwest Ontario. We used to stop at Lake Superior provincial park but our longer RV got scratched up (untrimmed trees and tight turns in the campgrounds). Suggest the SSM KOA, Penn Lake park in Marathon (both full service) and perhaps one of the longer sites in Pukaskwa National park near Marathon (electric only). Reservations are probably recommended depending on if you are stopping over a weekend. Thunder Bay KOA is also a good stop. Neys provincial park is nice, sites on the lake shore but very busy during the summer.

So no to answer your question it is not nesssesary,but the closer you are to the cities of SS marie or thunder bay the tougher it gets.
The middle part of the trip(Wawa or marathon) the easier.

could be tight if you drive up ,depends on the size of your rig,If you are not particular .
There is also Neys PP rainbow fallsPP the town park in Marathon ,the national park (no reservations taken)
and there are always spots there-except last year when it was free admission.
we have got spots in all of these just driving up

Weekends are always tight in the summer.
Especially for longer trailers with electric.

Just reserved 2 days midweek late July at Sleeping Giant.
There were about 10 spots left. That's mid-week.

North of Superior, Ontario, I've never had a problem, especially if you don't require hook ups. We have also used rest areas and gas stations/truck stops, without any issues. This is in July and August. May, first 1/2 June and after Labour Day, definitely no problems.

That sure cuts down on flexibility. I have some reservations which are MUST stops but didn't think I would need to tie down every stop. Ugh!

Anything East of the Mississippi River, you better get reservations if you want to be sure you get a spot. Especially anywhere in Michigan for the Summer months. And actually, it may already be too late for this year.
