Need advice re: traveling across Hopi Reservation in AZ

We are in the early stages of planning a 4-6 wk. trip to the Southwest in Oct. We hope to head from Kansas City area to Santa Fe, Canyon deChelly, on across to Grand Canyon and then to Death Valley, ...

I've seen some post about 264. The thing that I remember is that people warn about LOTS of Goats & Sheep in the roadway & the locals REALLY don't like it if you run over one.
